Cannellino di Frascati
About the wine
Cannellino di Frascati is a historic sweet white wine from the Lazio region, elevated to DOCG status in 2011. Produced from the volcanic slopes of the Alban Hills southeast of Rome, it is traditionally crafted from a blend dominated by Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Malvasia del Lazio (Puntinata). The wine is defined by its late-harvest grapes, which may undergo partial drying to concentrate sugars, resulting in a characteristic 'abboccato' (off-dry to sweet) profile. It presents an intense straw-yellow color, a delicate, fruity bouquet, and a balanced palate with a minimum of 35 g/l of residual sugar. The volcanic soils, rich in pozzolana and tuff, combined with a Mediterranean climate, provide the ideal conditions for the slow ripening required to achieve its signature elegance and structure. It remains a testament to the ancient viticultural traditions of the Tusculum area.
