Cesanese di Affile
About the wine
Cesanese di Affile DOC is a refined red wine appellation from the Lazio region, centered on the specific Cesanese di Affile grape variety. Unlike the broader Cesanese del Piglio, this DOC focuses on the distinct, high-quality expression of the Affile biotype, cultivated on the limestone-rich 'terra rossa' soils of the Monti Affilani. The wines are characterized by a deep ruby color, floral and dark fruit aromatics, and a structured, harmonious palate with well-integrated tannins. The production is limited to a small, hilly area, ensuring a terroir-driven profile that ranges from dry, elegant reds to a specific sweet typology and a structured Riserva. The wines are known for their longevity and historical prestige, with a tradition of viticulture dating back to Roman times. The disciplinare mandates strict yield controls and specific aging requirements for the Riserva, emphasizing a balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern quality standards.
