Colli della Sabina
About the wine
The Colli della Sabina DOC covers a historic viticultural area spanning the provinces of Rieti and Rome in the Lazio region. With roots dating back to Roman times, the appellation benefits from a temperate climate and diverse soils—ranging from volcanic tuffs to marine clays and limestone—that characterize the landscape between the Tiber Valley and the Sabini Mountains. The white wines are primarily based on Malvasia del Lazio, resulting in straw-yellow, delicate, and harmonious wines with fruity notes. The red wines rely on a blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano, producing ruby-colored, structured, and balanced wines with good longevity. The production rules emphasize traditional cultivation methods and specific density requirements, ensuring that the wines reflect the unique terroir of this ancient, olive-and-vine-rich territory. The resulting wines are noted for their balance, moderate acidity, and authentic expression of the Sabina landscape.
