Colli Lanuvini
About the wine
Colli Lanuvini is a historic DOC located in the Lazio region, south of Rome, encompassing the volcanic hillsides of Genzano and Lanuvio. The appellation produces both white and red wines, ranging from standard versions to 'Superiore' and a 'Riserva' red. The whites are based on Malvasia (Candia and Puntinata) and Trebbiano, resulting in fresh, floral, and balanced wines. The reds, dominated by Merlot and supported by Montepulciano and Sangiovese, are noted for their structure, longevity, and velvety texture. The volcanic soil, rich in pozzolana and tuff, combined with a favorable climate featuring significant diurnal temperature shifts, provides an ideal environment for viticulture. The wines are characterized by their harmony and traditional production methods, which have been documented since the Roman era and codified in local statutes as early as the 16th century.
