Marino
About the wine
Marino is a historic DOC in the Lazio region, situated on the volcanic slopes of the Colli Albani near Rome. The appellation is primarily known for its white wines, which have been celebrated since Roman times and famously praised by Emperor Charles V in the 16th century. The wines are typically based on Malvasia Bianca di Candia, which must constitute at least 50% of the blend, often complemented by other local white varieties like Trebbiano, Bellone, and Greco. The production zone benefits from mineral-rich volcanic soils and a Mediterranean climate, resulting in wines that range from crisp, dry, and fruity to complex, late-harvest, and passito styles. The DOC also includes 'Classico' designations for the most traditional production areas, as well as sparkling (spumante) and frizzante versions, reflecting the versatility of the local viticulture.
