Nettuno
About the wine
The Nettuno DOC, located on the Tyrrhenian coast south of Rome, encompasses a historic viticultural area spanning the communes of Nettuno and Anzio. The denomination is defined by its maritime climate and diverse soils of volcanic and sedimentary origin, which impart freshness and structure to the wines. The white wines are primarily based on the Bellone grape (locally known as Cacchione), often blended with Trebbiano Toscano, resulting in dry, harmonious, and fruity profiles. The red and novello wines rely on a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese, yielding ruby-colored wines with persistent, vinous aromas. The DOC also includes rosato and frizzante versions across these categories. The production is characterized by a long-standing tradition of coastal viticulture, where the combination of sea breezes and specific soil composition creates wines with distinct aromatic precursors and balanced acidity. The appellation represents a focused expression of the Lazio coast, emphasizing regional identity through traditional ampelographic choices and careful management of yields.
