Tarquinia
About the wine
The Tarquinia DOC, established in 1996, encompasses a diverse viticultural area spanning the provinces of Rome and Viterbo in the Lazio region. This historic territory, deeply rooted in Etruscan tradition, benefits from a Mediterranean climate and varied volcanic and alluvial soils. The appellation covers a wide range of styles, including white, red, and rosato, with specific provisions for amabile (semi-sweet) and frizzante versions. White wines are primarily based on Trebbiano (Toscano and Giallo) and Malvasia, resulting in fresh, balanced, and delicate profiles. Red wines, anchored by Sangiovese and Montepulciano with a contribution from Cesanese, are characterized by good structure, moderate tannins, and harmonious, vinous qualities. The production zone, stretching from the coast to the rolling hills of the interior, emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and specific yield controls to ensure quality. The resulting wines are recognized for their consistency and their deep connection to the ancient winemaking heritage of the Maremma Laziale.
