Terracina
About the wine
The Terracina DOC, also known as Moscato di Terracina, is a specialized appellation in the Lazio region centered on the historic Moscato di Terracina grape. This variety, deeply rooted in the coastal landscape of the province of Latina, produces wines that are celebrated for their aromatic intensity and versatility. The DOC encompasses four distinct typologies: dry, amabile (semi-sweet), passito, and spumante. The dry and amabile versions are noted for their floral, fragrant profiles and balanced acidity, while the passito is a structured, velvety dessert wine. The spumante, produced via the Martinotti method, offers a fine, persistent mousse. The region's unique combination of calcareous soils, Mediterranean climate, and significant diurnal temperature shifts allows for the slow, complete maturation of the grapes, resulting in wines with high aromatic complexity. The production is strictly limited to the communes of Terracina, Monte San Biagio, and Sonnino, maintaining a tradition that dates back to Roman times.
