Alezio
About the wine
The Alezio DOC, established in the province of Lecce, Puglia, represents a historic viticultural area centered on the Negroamaro grape. This denomination covers both red and rosato wines, which are deeply rooted in the Salento peninsula's tradition of producing structured, warm, and sapid wines. The red wines are characterized by a ruby color that evolves with age, offering a complex bouquet and a distinctively tannic, slightly bitter finish. The rosato, a hallmark of the region, is produced via traditional static draining of crushed grapes, resulting in an intense coral-pink hue and a velvety, harmonious profile. The production zone, situated on the Ionian side of the Salento, benefits from unique 'terra rossa' soils and a Mediterranean climate, which have supported viticulture since ancient times. The DOC mandates a minimum of 80% Negroamaro, allowing for small percentages of Malvasia Nera di Lecce, Sangiovese, and Montepulciano to complete the blend, ensuring a consistent expression of this specific terroir.
