Salice Salentino
About the wine
Salice Salentino is a prominent DOC from the Puglia region, centered around the town of the same name in the provinces of Lecce and Brindisi. Established in 1976, the appellation is deeply rooted in the historical cultivation of the Negroamaro grape, which serves as the backbone for its signature robust, velvety red wines and elegant rosés. The production zone, characterized by deep, calcareous-clay soils, allows for the development of complex, warm, and harmonious wines. Beyond the classic Negroamaro-based reds and rosés, the DOC encompasses a diverse range of styles, including varietal wines like Chardonnay, Fiano, and Pinot Bianco, as well as the distinctive Aleatico, which is produced in both sweet and fortified (liquoroso) versions. The wines are known for their intense fruit profiles and, in the case of the Riserva, a capacity for graceful aging with spicy, mature notes.
