Alpi Retiche
About the wine
The Alpi Retiche IGT, formerly known as Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio, covers a unique mountain viticulture zone in the Lombardy region, specifically within the province of Sondrio. The area is defined by its dramatic terraced vineyards, supported by over 2,500 km of dry-stone walls, and a climate moderated by the proximity of Lake Como and the protection of the Rhaetian Alps. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for a wide range of wine styles including white, red, rosato, passito, late harvest (vendemmia tardiva), and Metodo Classico sparkling wines. The production is characterized by steep slopes, high diurnal temperature variations, and sandy, granitic soils. The disciplinare emphasizes the historical human contribution to the landscape and the use of traditional viticultural practices, allowing for any grape variety authorized for cultivation in the Lombardy region to be used, provided they meet the specific quality requirements for each wine type.
