Oltrepò Pavese
About the wine
The Oltrepò Pavese DOC is a broad and versatile appellation located in the Lombardy region, encompassing a diverse range of styles including still, frizzante, and spumante wines. The region is historically significant for its varied viticultural landscape, producing everything from structured Barbera and Croatina-based reds to aromatic Moscato and crisp Riesling. The DOC is defined by its hilly terrain, which provides the necessary drainage and sun exposure for high-quality viticulture. While the appellation covers a vast array of varietals, the wines are unified by a commitment to traditional local winemaking practices, including the widespread use of the Martinotti (Charmat) method for sparkling expressions. The resulting wines are characterized by their regional typicity, ranging from the fresh, aromatic profiles of the whites to the tannic, full-bodied nature of the Riserva reds.
