Franciacorta
About the wine
Franciacorta is Italy's premier DOCG for traditional-method sparkling wines, produced in the rolling hills south of Lake Iseo in Lombardy. Defined by its rigorous production standards, the wine must undergo secondary fermentation in the bottle and extended aging on the lees. The base wines are primarily Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, with Pinot Bianco and the indigenous Erbamat permitted in smaller proportions. Franciacorta is celebrated for its elegance, fine mousse, and complexity, ranging from the standard cuvée to the silky, lower-pressure Satèn and the structured Rosé. The regulation mandates a minimum of 18 months of aging for the base wine, with significantly longer requirements for Millesimato and Riserva categories, ensuring a refined, harmonious profile characterized by savory, fresh, and complex notes derived from autolysis.
