Lugana
About the wine
Lugana is a distinctive white wine appellation straddling the Lombardy and Veneto regions, centered on the southern shores of Lake Garda. The DOC is defined by its unique terroir: a flat, clay-rich, calcareous soil of glacial origin that imparts a characteristic structure, salinity, and mineral tension to the wines. The primary grape is Turbiana (locally known as Trebbiano di Lugana), a variety that thrives in the lake's mild, Mediterranean-influenced microclimate. The wines are celebrated for their elegance, ranging from crisp, floral, and almond-scented base versions to more complex, age-worthy 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' styles that often see wood aging. The appellation also produces a notable 'Vendemmia Tardiva' (late harvest) style and traditional-method sparkling wines. Lugana is widely regarded for its ability to balance refreshing acidity with a rich, harmonious body, making it one of Northern Italy’s most refined white wine expressions.

Production & aging
The production area encompasses the entirety of the Sirmione commune and parts of Desenzano del Garda, Lonato del Garda, and Pozzolengo in the province of Brescia (Lombardy), along with a portion of Peschiera del Garda in the province of Verona (Veneto). The zone is defined by its proximity to Lake Garda and specific glacial-morainic clay soils.
