About the wine

The Barletta DOC, established in 1977, represents a historic viticultural area in Puglia centered around the Ofanto river valley. The denomination is defined by its deep connection to the Uva di Troia (Nero di Troia) grape, a variety with ancient roots in the region, often associated with the legacy of Frederick II. Red wines, which form the core of the appellation, are characterized by their ruby color, firm structure, and aging potential, particularly in the Riserva category which requires at least two years of maturation, including one in wood. The DOC also encompasses white wines based on Malvasia Bianca, as well as rosato versions. The terroir, characterized by calcareous-clay soils and a mild Mediterranean climate, provides an ideal environment for these grapes to achieve balanced acidity and extract. The resulting wines are typically dry, harmonious, and expressive of their specific varietal profiles, reflecting a long-standing tradition of quality production in the provinces of Barletta-Andria-Trani and Foggia.
