Bergamasca
About the wine
The Bergamasca IGT covers a diverse viticultural area in the Lombardy region, stretching between the Adda and Oglio rivers. The zone is characterized by hilly terrain and varied geological formations, including limestone and clay-schist soils, which provide a distinct environment for vine cultivation. Historically, the region has a deep-rooted winemaking tradition dating back to Roman times, with vineyards historically serving as a primary economic driver. Today, the IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, rosato, and novello, as well as a specific 'Moscato' style derived from the Moscato di Scanzo grape. The production is focused on the hilly areas, where climatic conditions—ranging from the western hills to the eastern shores of Lake Iseo—favor the development of high-quality grapes. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and allows for significant flexibility in varietal composition, provided the grapes are authorized for the Lombardy region.
