Botticino
About the wine
Botticino is a historic red wine appellation from the province of Brescia, Lombardy, centered in the Valverde valley. This DOC is defined by a traditional blend of Barbera (min 30%), Marzemino (min 20%), Schiava Gentile (min 10%), and Sangiovese (min 10%). The wines are produced from hillside vineyards situated on limestone-rich soils, which impart a distinct structure and longevity. Botticino is known for its ruby-red color, intense vinous bouquet, and a dry, harmonious palate with moderate tannins. The 'Riserva' typology requires at least two years of aging, resulting in a more complex, velvety profile with ethereal notes. Historically linked to the local marble-quarrying culture and the patriotic legacy of the Risorgimento, Botticino remains a testament to the Brescian tradition of crafting robust, age-worthy red wines.
