Capri
About the wine
The Capri DOC represents a rare and historically significant viticultural tradition from the iconic island in the Gulf of Naples. The production is strictly limited to the island's two communes, Capri and Anacapri, where vines are cultivated on sun-drenched, terraced slopes overlooking the sea. The white wines are primarily based on a blend of Falanghina and Greco, resulting in a straw-yellow, dry, and fresh profile. The red wines are dominated by the Piedirosso grape, offering a ruby-colored, vinous, and sapid experience. Despite the island's global fame as a tourism hub, the viticulture remains a boutique endeavor, with vines grown on limestone soils that benefit from a unique maritime climate. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and prohibits the use of laudatory terms like 'Riserva' or 'Superiore' to maintain the focus on the authentic, terroir-driven character of these limited-production wines.
