Costa d'Amalfi
About the wine
The Costa d'Amalfi DOC represents one of Italy's most dramatic viticultural landscapes, where vines are cultivated on steep, narrow terraces carved into the cliffs of the Lattari Mountains overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. This challenging terrain, characterized by dry-stone walls (macèra) and a Mediterranean climate, produces wines of distinct character. The white wines are primarily based on Falanghina and Biancolella, often featuring rare local varieties like Pepella, Fenile, and Ginestra in the Furore sub-zone. The reds and rosés rely on Piedirosso, locally known as Per 'e Palummo, often blended with Sciascinoso and Aglianico. The DOC includes three prestigious sub-zones—Ravello, Tramonti, and Furore—which benefit from specific microclimates and higher quality standards. The wines are noted for their sapidity, balance, and clear expression of their rugged, coastal terroir, ranging from crisp whites and elegant rosés to structured reds and complex passito dessert wines.
