Falanghina del Sannio
About the wine
Falanghina del Sannio is a versatile DOC from the Benevento province in Campania, centered on the Falanghina grape. This appellation showcases the variety's adaptability, ranging from crisp, dry still wines to complex sparkling versions (including Metodo Classico), late-harvest (vendemmia tardiva), and rich passito dessert wines. The wines are characterized by a straw-yellow color, floral and fruity aromatics, and a signature freshness balanced by a dry, harmonious palate. The DOC recognizes four distinct sub-zones—Guardia Sanframondi (or Guardiolo), Sant’Agata dei Goti, Solopaca, and Taburno—each reflecting the diverse terroir of the Sannio hills. By requiring a minimum of 85% Falanghina, the regulations ensure the varietal's identity remains at the forefront, while allowing small percentages of other local non-aromatic white grapes to provide structural nuance. It is a quintessential expression of Campanian viticulture, emphasizing elegance and regional character over excessive extraction.
