Castel San Lorenzo
About the wine
The Castel San Lorenzo DOC, established in 1991, encompasses a diverse range of wines produced in the Calore Valley of the Salerno province in Campania. The denomination is notable for its inclusion of both international and local varieties, featuring Barbera-based reds, Trebbiano and Malvasia-based whites, and distinct Moscato styles, including the traditional 'Lambiccato' and 'Passito'. The area is characterized by clay-calcareous soils and hilly terrain within the Cilento National Park, which provide a favorable microclimate for viticulture. The wines are generally noted for their balanced chemical-physical profiles and varietal-driven aromatics. While the DOC covers a broad spectrum of styles, the regulations emphasize traditional winemaking practices and specific site selection, excluding valley floors to ensure quality. The inclusion of the Aglianicone grape, a local variety, adds a unique regional identity to the portfolio, with specific aging requirements for Riserva designations.
