Cellatica
About the wine
Cellatica is a historic red wine appellation from the hills immediately west of Brescia, Lombardy. Historically celebrated since the 16th century, this DOC represents a traditional blend dominated by Marzemino and Barbera, typically supported by Schiava Gentile and Incrocio Terzi n.1. The wines are characterized by their ruby red color, vinous bouquet, and a dry, sapid palate with a signature slightly bitter finish. The production zone is defined by challenging, steep, calcareous-clay hillsides—often referred to as the 'attic of Cellatica'—which provide excellent drainage and unique mineral profiles. The base wine is an approachable, structured red suitable for everyday dining, while the 'Superiore' typology undergoes longer aging, resulting in a more complex, age-worthy profile. The appellation remains a testament to the resilience of local viticulture in the face of urban expansion, maintaining strict traditional blending ratios to ensure regional identity.
