Daunia
About the wine
The Daunia IGT covers a broad viticultural area in northern Puglia, primarily encompassing the province of Foggia and specific municipalities in the BAT (Barletta-Andria-Trani) province. The region features a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, characterized by diverse topography ranging from the Daunian Apennines and Gargano promontory to the Tavoliere plains. The soils are predominantly clay-based or limestone-derived, providing a stable foundation for viticulture. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for a wide array of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante, spumante, passito, and novello styles. The production is deeply rooted in local history, with ancient ties to indigenous varieties like Uva di Troia. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and allows for significant flexibility in varietal composition, provided the grapes are sourced from the defined geographic zone.
