The Dugenta IGT covers the administrative territory of the municipality of Dugenta in the province of Benevento, Campania. This region is characterized by a hilly landscape with altitudes between 200 and 650 meters, featuring soils derived from carbonate, terrigenous, and pyroclastic sediments. The climate is generally mild in the valleys with higher rainfall at elevated sites, providing a favorable environment for viticulture. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including a 'novello' red style. The production standards reflect a modern approach to quality, emphasizing controlled yields and specific viticultural practices. Historically, the area has been significant for wine production since Roman times, evidenced by archaeological findings of amphorae production sites. Today, the denomination relies on a broad base of grape varieties authorized for the Benevento province, focusing on both indigenous and international cultivars to produce balanced, fruit-forward wines.
