Epomeo
About the wine
The Epomeo IGT covers the entire island of Ischia in the Campania region. This denomination allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, rosato, passito, and frizzante. The viticultural history of Ischia is ancient, dating back to Greek colonization, and is characterized by steep, terraced vineyards built with green tuff stone walls. The island's volcanic soil and maritime climate, influenced by the central Tyrrhenian Sea, create a unique environment for viticulture. The disciplinare emphasizes the use of traditional grape varieties authorized for the province of Naples, such as Biancolella and Forastera for whites, and Piedirosso and Aglianico for reds. The wines are noted for their balanced chemical-physical characteristics and aromatic profiles derived from indigenous varietals. Production is strictly limited to the island, though some vinification may occur in specific regional facilities established before 2012.
