Garda Colli Mantovani
About the wine
The Garda Colli Mantovani DOC covers a diverse range of wines—white, red, and Chiaretto—produced within the morainic hills of the Mantua province, near Lake Garda. The area’s unique microclimate, influenced by the lake’s breezes and the Mincio River, creates a temperate environment ideal for viticulture. White wines are primarily based on Garganega and Trebbiano/Chardonnay, offering fresh, floral, and sapid profiles, with specialized versions including Passito and late-harvest styles. The red wines, centered on Cabernet, Merlot, and Rondinella, are characterized by their ruby color and structured, spicy, or fruity notes. The DOC also includes a 'Superiore' red and 'Riserva' versions for both colors, which undergo extended aging to develop complexity. This appellation reflects a long-standing tradition of winemaking in the morainic landscape, where human selection of vineyard sites and traditional practices remain central to the identity of these wines.
