Lambrusco Mantovano
About the wine
Lambrusco Mantovano is a distinct DOC from the Lombardy region, characterized by its production in the alluvial plains along the Po and Oglio rivers. The appellation covers both red and rosato styles, typically produced as frizzante wines. The blend is anchored by local Lambrusco varieties, including Viadanese, Maestri, Marani, and Salamino, which must constitute at least 85% of the composition. These wines are known for their vibrant acidity, fruity profiles—often featuring notes of violet or red currant—and a sapid, refreshing palate that ranges from dry to amabile. The production zone is divided into two sub-areas, 'Viadanese-Sabbionetano' and 'Oltrepò Mantovano,' each reflecting the unique pedoclimatic influence of the river basin. The wines are traditionally crafted to pair with the rich, hearty cuisine of the Mantua area, benefiting from the specific microclimate and historical viticultural practices that have defined this territory since the Middle Ages.
