Martina
About the wine
The Martina or Martina Franca DOC, established in the heart of Puglia's Murgia region, represents a historic viticultural tradition centered on the Valle d'Itria. This appellation is defined by its white wines, produced as both still and sparkling (spumante) versions. The blend is dominated by Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano, two indigenous varieties that thrive in the area's characteristic red soils—calcareous-clay substrates rich in iron oxides and potassium. The resulting wines are typically pale straw-yellow with greenish reflections, offering a delicate, vinous bouquet and a dry, sapid palate. The sparkling version, produced via natural fermentation, is noted for its fine, persistent perlage and fresh, harmonious profile. The production zone, characterized by its iconic trulli architecture and dry-stone walls, benefits from a warm, arid climate and significant diurnal temperature shifts, which preserve the aromatic complexity and acidity essential for these elegant, terroir-driven white wines.
