Montenetto di Brescia
About the wine
The Montenetto di Brescia IGT covers a unique viticultural area centered on the Monte Netto, a distinct promontory rising from the Lombardy plains south of Brescia. Unlike the surrounding flatlands, this area features clay-rich soils and a microclimate suited for quality viticulture. The IGT produces white wines (including frizzante) and red wines (including novello). The production is deeply rooted in local history, with the Marzemino grape—locally known as Berzemino—being a historical staple of the area, alongside Trebbiano. The disciplinare emphasizes the historical significance of these wines, which were once valued for their health benefits in the region. The regulations are permissive regarding blending, allowing up to 15% of other regional varieties, while maintaining specific standards for organoleptic profiles. The area is characterized by its gentle slopes and plateau, which facilitate mechanized farming while preserving traditional viticultural practices.

Production & aging
The production area is strictly limited to the territory of six municipalities in the province of Brescia: Azzano Mella, Borgosatollo, Capriano del Colle, Castenedolo, Flero, and Poncarale. This zone is defined by the geological presence of the Monte Netto, which provides a distinct elevated landscape compared to the surrounding Po Valley plains.
