Nebbiolo d'Alba
About the wine
Nebbiolo d’Alba is a versatile DOC denomination centered around the city of Alba in Piedmont, showcasing the Nebbiolo grape in a range of styles. Unlike the more restrictive Barolo or Barbaresco zones, this appellation covers a broader geographic area on both sides of the Tanaro River, including the distinctive sandy soils of the Roero and the limestone-rich hills of the Langhe. The base wine is typically a refined, approachable expression of Nebbiolo, characterized by ruby-to-garnet hues, red fruit aromatics like raspberry and wild strawberry, and a velvety, harmonious palate. The regulation also permits a 'Superiore' version requiring longer aging, as well as unique Spumante styles—red, rosé, and white—produced via the Martinotti or traditional methods. This DOC represents a vital bridge between the region's most prestigious crus and the everyday elegance of Piedmontese viticulture, emphasizing the grape's adaptability to diverse microclimates within the Cuneo province.
