Colli Tortonesi
About the wine
The Colli Tortonesi DOC, located in the southeastern corner of Piedmont, is a diverse and historically significant appellation. It is best known for its wide range of varietal wines, spanning from the crisp, almond-noted Cortese to the structured, age-worthy Timorasso, which has become the region's flagship white. The red wines are equally varied, anchored by Barbera, Croatina, and Dolcetto, often reflecting the area's clay-limestone soils and hilly topography. The DOC allows for significant flexibility in production, including frizzante and spumante styles, as well as Riserva designations for key varieties. The wines are generally characterized by their freshness, sapidity, and distinct territorial identity, bridging the gap between the traditional Piedmontese style and the unique microclimates of the Tortona hills. It remains a dynamic region where both indigenous and international varieties are cultivated with a focus on traditional hillside viticulture.

Production & aging
The production zone covers the hilly viticultural area of the Tortonese district in southeastern Piedmont. It includes over 30 communes, such as Tortona, Monleale, Volpedo, and parts of Arquata Scrivia. The landscape is characterized by clay-limestone soils and exclusively hilly terrain, excluding valley floors to ensure optimal sun exposure and drainage for high-quality viticulture.
