Carema
About the wine
Carema is a distinguished, high-altitude red wine produced in the northernmost reaches of the Piedmont region, bordering the Aosta Valley. Crafted primarily from Nebbiolo grapes—locally known as Picutener and Prugnet—the wine is defined by the extreme viticulture of the area, where vines are cultivated on steep, rocky slopes supported by historic dry-stone terraces (topion). These terraces and stone pillars play a crucial role in heat retention, mitigating the alpine climate. The resulting wine is elegant and refined, typically characterized by a ruby-to-garnet color, a signature aroma of macerated rose, and a velvety, full-bodied palate. The production process is rigorous, requiring significant aging in wood, which imparts complexity and structure. Carema represents a triumph of traditional viticulture over challenging terrain, yielding a rare and sophisticated expression of the Nebbiolo grape.
