Paestum
About the wine
The Paestum IGT covers a vast and diverse territory in the province of Salerno, Campania, stretching from the coastal plains near the ancient Greek ruins of Paestum to the mountainous areas of the Cilento region. This IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, amabile, and passito versions. The production is rooted in a long historical tradition of viticulture dating back to Greek and Roman times. The disciplinare permits the use of various grape varieties suitable for the Salerno province, with specific provisions for varietal-labeled wines requiring at least 85% of the stated grape. The region's complex orography, ranging from alluvial plains to hilly and mountainous terrain, provides a variety of microclimates that support both indigenous and international cultivars, resulting in wines characterized by balanced chemical-physical profiles and distinct aromatic expressions.
