Penisola Sorrentina
About the wine
The Penisola Sorrentina DOC covers a picturesque, mountainous landscape along the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento Peninsula. This appellation is historically significant for its traditional, often frizzante, red wines—most notably the celebrated Gragnano and Lettere sub-zones—which are deeply embedded in Neapolitan culinary culture. The wines are typically crafted from a blend of Piedirosso, Sciascinoso, and Aglianico for the reds, and Falanghina, Biancolella, and Greco for the whites. The reds are known for their vibrant, fruit-forward profiles, often displaying a characteristic 'smoky' nuance and a lively, evanescent foam in the frizzante versions. The whites are delicate, dry, and harmonious. Produced on steep, volcanic-influenced slopes of the Lattari Mountains, these wines represent a rejection of industrial standardization, favoring instead the authentic, rustic, and sapid qualities of the local terroir. They are designed for immediate enjoyment, pairing exceptionally well with local Mediterranean cuisine.
