Pompeiano
About the wine
The Pompeiano IGT covers the province of Naples, excluding the island of Ischia. This region, deeply rooted in ancient Roman winemaking history, is defined by its volcanic soils—largely derived from the Somma-Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei complexes—which impart a distinct character to the wines. The IGT allows for a wide range of styles, including white, red, and rosé, as well as frizzante, amabile, and passito versions. The production is characterized by a focus on indigenous Campanian varietals, which thrive in the area's unique Mediterranean climate, characterized by sea-influenced breezes and high luminosity. The disciplinare emphasizes the historical and cultural significance of the area, which served as a major commercial hub for wine in antiquity. While the IGT is permissive regarding blending, it provides specific standards for wines labeled with primary varietals like Aglianico and Falangina, ensuring a link to the local terroir.
