Quistello
About the wine
The Quistello IGT covers a specific area in the Oltre Po Mantovano region of Lombardy. The production zone is characterized by alluvial soils and a sub-humid to sub-arid climate influenced by the Po and Secchia rivers. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. The viticultural history of this area is deeply rooted, with records of Vitis labrusca dating back to Virgil and significant development by Benedictine monks in the 11th century. The disciplinare permits the use of any grape variety authorized for cultivation in the Lombardy region, provided they are registered in the National Registry. A notable local variety is the Grappello Ruberti. The wines are known for their specific organoleptic profiles, which are closely tied to the unique pedoclimatic conditions of the river plains and traditional human intervention in land management and winemaking.
