Ronchi di Brescia
About the wine
The Ronchi di Brescia IGT covers a historic viticultural area in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, encompassing municipalities such as Brescia, Botticino, Cellatica, and Rezzato. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean-influenced microclimate and diverse soil compositions, including limestone, clay, and marl, which have supported vine cultivation since Roman times. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, sparkling (frizzante), and passito. The production is deeply rooted in the 'Ronchi' tradition—terraced vineyards historically carved into the hillsides. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional winemaking practices to maintain the regional identity of the wines, which are noted for their balance, freshness, and structural integrity. While the IGT is permissive regarding varietal blending, it maintains specific requirements for the composition of specialized types like the Invernenga-based passito and the red novello.
