Ronchi Varesini
About the wine
The Ronchi Varesini IGT covers a wide area within the Varese province in Lombardy, situated between the Alpine foothills and the Ticino River. Historically significant for viticulture since pre-Roman times, the region produces white (including frizzante), red, and rosato wines. The climate is influenced by the proximity to Lake Maggiore and the surrounding pre-alpine landscape, with vineyards typically located between 200 and 500 meters above sea level. The soils are diverse, ranging from glacial deposits to fluvioglacial terraces, generally characterized by good drainage and moderate acidity. Red wines are primarily based on Barbera, Merlot, Nebbiolo, and Croatina, while white wines utilize non-aromatic varieties authorized for the Lombardy region. The IGT designation reflects a tradition of small-scale, high-quality production that has persisted despite the industrialization of the Varese area, focusing on balanced, fresh, and characteristic wines that express the unique pedoclimatic conditions of the Varesotto territory.
