About the wine

San Colombano al Lambro is a unique DOC located on a small, isolated hilly outcrop rising from the Po Valley, south of Milan. Recognized in 1984, this appellation benefits from a distinct microclimate and geological history, often described as an appendix of the Apennines. The wines are produced in both Rosso and Bianco styles, with options for frizzante versions. The Rosso is a blend typically led by Croatina and Barbera, resulting in a structured, sapid, and vinous wine with notes of blackberry and almond. The Bianco is dominated by Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, offering a fresh, harmonious, and floral profile. The area has a long viticultural history dating back to Roman times and was historically supported by monastic orders and the Visconti family. The DOC allows for 'vigna' designations for higher-quality, site-specific production, with strict requirements for aging and alcohol content for Riserva versions.
