Tavoliere delle Puglie
About the wine
The Tavoliere delle Puglie DOC, also known as Tavoliere, represents the viticultural heritage of northern Puglia, centered on the historic Nero di Troia grape. This denomination covers a diverse landscape ranging from the Daunian mountains to the plains of the Tavoliere and the Murgia plateau. The wines are characterized by the prominence of Nero di Troia, which must constitute at least 65% of the Rosso and Rosato blends, and at least 90% for the varietal Nero di Troia wines. These reds are noted for their deep ruby color, often showing garnet reflections with age, and a profile rich in red fruit—such as cherries and plums—complemented by spicy notes of black pepper and licorice. The wines are typically structured, balanced, and possess a firm, elegant tannin profile. The Riserva versions undergo a minimum of two years of aging, including at least eight months in wood, which enhances their complexity and longevity. It is a denomination that bridges ancient Mediterranean traditions with modern quality-focused viticulture.
