Valle d'Itria
About the wine
The Valle d'Itria IGT covers a specific area in the Puglia region, renowned for its unique 'Trulli' landscape and limestone-rich red soils. The denomination is highly permissive, allowing for a wide range of wine styles including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, spumante, passito, and novello versions. The production zone benefits from a warm, arid climate and moderate altitudes (280–418m), which help maintain acidity and aromatic complexity in the grapes. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional viticultural practices, such as the use of alberello and spalliera training systems, and highlights the historical importance of local varieties like Bianco d'Alessano and Verdeca. The IGT provides a flexible framework for producers to showcase both indigenous and international varietals, leveraging the region's distinct pedoclimatic conditions to produce wines ranging from fresh, crisp whites to structured, age-worthy reds.
