Alba
About the wine
The Alba DOC represents a traditional Piedmontese blend that bridges the distinct viticultural identities of the Langhe and Roero territories. By combining the structure and longevity of Nebbiolo (70-85%) with the vibrant acidity and fruit-forward profile of Barbera (15-30%), this denomination creates a balanced, robust red wine. The resulting profile is typically ruby red, evolving toward garnet with age, characterized by a dry, tannic, and persistent palate. The production rules mandate specific aging periods—17 months for the base wine and 23 months for the Riserva—with significant portions of that time required in oak barrels. This DOC serves as a testament to the historical blending practices of the Alba area, offering a harmonious expression of the region's diverse calcareous and sandy soils.

Production & aging
The production area encompasses the heart of the Langhe and Roero districts in the province of Cuneo. It includes the entirety of 33 communes, such as Barolo, La Morra, Monforte d’Alba, and Serralunga d’Alba, along with partial territories of 22 additional communes, including Alba, Barbaresco, and Bra. The zone is defined by the Tanaro river, which separates the sandy, fossil-rich soils of the Roero from the marly, clay-limestone soils of the Langhe.
