About the wine

Albugnano is a niche DOC located in the northwestern Monferrato hills of the Asti province. This appellation is defined by its focus on Nebbiolo, which must constitute at least 85% of the blend, reflecting a historical enclave where the variety has persisted despite broader regional shifts. The wines are produced at higher altitudes (often exceeding 400 meters) on light-colored, marly soils, resulting in a distinctively elegant expression of Nebbiolo that often matures earlier than its counterparts in the Langhe. The base wine is typically ruby red, ranging from dry to slightly sweet (abboccato), with characteristic tannins and persistence. A 'Superiore' typology exists, requiring a minimum of one year of aging, including at least six months in oak barrels, which adds complexity and structure. The DOC also permits a rosato version, showcasing the versatility of the local terroir.
