Bosco Eliceo
About the wine
The Bosco Eliceo DOC, located along the Adriatic coast of Emilia-Romagna, is a unique appellation defined by its sandy soils and maritime influence. The denomination is historically centered on the Fortana grape, a late-ripening variety that thrives in these saline, sandy environments. The DOC encompasses a range of typologies, including Fortana, Merlot, Sauvignon, and a white blend based on Trebbiano Romagnolo. These wines are characterized by their moderate structure, high sapidity, and aromatic freshness, often produced in 'vivace' or 'frizzante' styles that reflect local winemaking traditions. The proximity to the sea provides diurnal temperature variations that preserve acidity and aromatics, resulting in wines that are approachable, fragrant, and well-suited to the rich local gastronomy. While modern technology has refined production, the DOC maintains its identity through its distinct terroir and the historical practice of producing both still and sparkling wines with varying levels of residual sugar.
