Colli Piacentini
About the wine
Colli Piacentini DOC is a versatile and expansive appellation covering the hilly landscapes of the Piacenza province in Emilia-Romagna. Established in 1967, it encompasses a wide array of wine styles, ranging from crisp whites and aromatic Malvasia to structured reds like Barbera and Bonarda, as well as specialized sweet wines like Vin Santo. The region is defined by its diverse microclimates across the Val Tidone, Val Trebbia, Val Nure, and Val d'Arda. The wines are often produced in 'frizzante' (semi-sparkling) or 'spumante' versions, reflecting the local tradition of lively, food-friendly wines. The appellation is notable for its complex ampelographic requirements, which vary significantly by sub-zone and specific wine type, ensuring that each local expression—from the blend-heavy Monterosso Val d'Arda to the varietal-focused Malvasia—maintains its distinct regional character.
