About the wine

The Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa DOC, established in 1976, covers a diverse range of wines produced in the hills of the Reggio Emilia province. This appellation is notable for its versatility, encompassing a wide array of varietal-based wines including Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Cabernet Sauvignon, and several Lambrusco types, alongside the local Spergola grape. The production zone spans the scenic foothills between the Enza and Secchia rivers, characterized by clay-rich soils and a temperate climate. The DOC allows for various styles, from still and frizzante to spumante and passito, reflecting the region's long-standing tradition of sparkling and semi-sparkling wine production. The wines are generally marked by their freshness and regional character, with specific 'Riserva' designations for Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon requiring extended wood aging. The 'Bianco Classico' sub-zone represents the most traditional viticultural area, emphasizing the historical importance of the Spergola variety in this part of Emilia-Romagna.
