Rimini
About the wine
The Rimini DOC, formerly known as Colli di Rimini, encompasses a diverse range of wines produced in the province of Rimini, excluding the coastal plains. This appellation benefits from a unique microclimate shaped by the Adriatic Sea and the hilly terrain of the Marecchia, Conca, and Marano valleys. The DOC is characterized by its versatility, offering everything from fresh, sapid whites based on Trebbiano, Biancame, and Grechetto Gentile (Rebola) to structured, age-worthy reds dominated by Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The region's clay-limestone soils and consistent sea breezes contribute to the wines' distinct mineral profile and aromatic complexity. The production standards emphasize quality through controlled yields and specific aging requirements for Riserva typologies. The Rebola Passito, a notable specialty, showcases the local expertise in drying grapes to produce a rich, balanced dessert wine. Overall, the Rimini DOC reflects a deep-rooted viticultural tradition that balances historical techniques with modern precision to produce wines that are both elegant and representative of their specific terroir.
