About the wine

The Colli Bolognesi DOC encompasses the hilly landscape south and west of Bologna, stretching between the Panaro and Idice rivers. This diverse viticultural area is defined by complex geological formations, including Pliocene sands, clays, and alluvial deposits, which provide a varied terroir for both international and traditional varieties. The DOC covers a range of styles, from the classic Barbera—available in still, frizzante, and long-aged Riserva versions—to international staples like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are characterized by their harmony and balance, often reflecting the moderate water stress of the lower hills which aids in sugar concentration and aromatic development. While the region is historically known for its proximity to the culinary capital of Italy, the DOC ensures a rigorous quality standard, mandating specific hillside cultivation and traditional vinification practices to maintain the identity of these Bolognese wines.
