Reggiano
About the wine
Reggiano DOC is a versatile appellation from the Emilia-Romagna region, centered on the province of Reggio Emilia. It is best known for its diverse range of Lambrusco-based wines, which span from dry to sweet and still to sparkling (frizzante and spumante). The production is defined by a wide array of permitted Lambrusco varieties, alongside Fogarina and Ancellotta, which contribute to the characteristic fruity and floral profiles. Beyond the classic reds, the DOC includes a unique 'Reggiano Rosso' blend, a white spumante vinified from red grapes, and a rare Fogarina passito. These wines are typically fresh, vibrant, and designed for immediate enjoyment, often displaying the characteristic vivacity of the region's traditional secondary fermentation methods. The regulations emphasize the historical link to the Reggio Emilia territory, ensuring that the wines maintain their authentic, approachable, and food-friendly character, which pairs exceptionally well with local culinary staples.
