Canavese
About the wine
The Canavese DOC, established in 1996, encompasses a diverse range of wines produced within the unique glacial morainic amphitheater of northern Piedmont. This appellation is distinctive for its varied topography and microclimates, protected by the Alps and influenced by the Dora Baltea and Orco rivers. The DOC covers a broad spectrum of styles, including red, rosato, and white wines, as well as spumante versions. The reds are typically blends based on Nebbiolo, Barbera, and local varieties like Neretto and Uva Rara, resulting in wines characterized by high acidity, sapidity, and moderate tannins. The white wines are exclusively produced from the Erbaluce grape, often trained on traditional 'topia canavesana' pergolas. The region's viticulture is deeply tied to its glacial soils, which impart mineral complexity to the wines. Whether still or sparkling, Canavese wines are noted for their freshness, aromatic clarity, and structural balance, reflecting a long-standing tradition of viticulture preserved through both historical agricultural practices and modern technological investment.

The area is defined by the glacial morainic amphitheater of the Canavese, characterized by hilly terrain and specific microclimates influenced by the Alps and local river systems.
